Session 1: 9:45 AM to 10:45 AM
Developing
and Implementing a Public Water Supply Mapping Site
Andrews L. Tolman
Source Protection, Maine Drinking Water
Program, DHS
The Drinking Water Program (DWP) has developedlink to DWP GIS site an Internet mapping site in cooperation with Northern Geomantics, using DWP and MeGIS data. The site provides secure access to Public Water Supply location and contact data including the source water assessment results. It assists the DWP in providing information to municipalities (PL 761). The presentation will include a discussion of how the site was developed, as well as a demonstration of its functions.
Internet
Mapping Systems - Is there a Best Way?
Seth Barker
Maine Department of Marine Resources
The Maine Department of Marine Resources has worked on a variety of Internet mapping applications over the past three years. Several will be highlighted along with some alternatives that take advantage of investments in GIS. Pros and cons of an "out of the box approach" for Ad Hoc applications, as well as, more sophisticated uses will be discussed.
Break: 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM
Session 2: 11:00 to noon
GIS
Web Hosting Services Allows the Town of Sanford to Broaden its GIS
Audience
Bill Botting Mary House
Town of Sanford Maine
Woodard & Curran
The Town of Sanford has centralized access to its GIS
using an interactive web-based application.
A collaborative approach was taken to design and implement a
user-friendly GIS web site to serve both the public and municipal staff. The use of web hosting services allowed the
Town of Sanford to defray the high cost of maintaining the hardware, software,
and expertise necessary to provide web-based GIS services. The Town’s GIS web site allows users to view
property information, list abutters, perform spatial overlays, and print
mailing lists and maps.
Using
Field-Based Technology to Support your GIS Program
Sean Myers
GIS Specialist
CDM
This presentation will highlight
and demonstrate some of the new field-based GIS technologies that are available
for a variety of applications and will discuss how field-based tasks can be
leveraged to keep municipal GIS databases updated. The presentation will also
include a discussion of methods and procedures that can be used to synchronize GIS
databases with field generated information. Technologies discussed will be
ESRI's ArcPad software, GPS, database synchronization, and wireless
technologies.
MEGUG Annual Business Meeting 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM
Session 3: 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
Community
Design and Decision Making
Judy Colby-George
Spatial Alternatives, Inc.
As more data becomes available to municipalities, advances in modeling and
visualization technologies can help change the way we make local and regional
decisions. Impact analysis, visualization, and modeling tools provide a
more comprehensive understanding for both community planners and citizens of
the links between smart growth, resource consumption, and environmental
quality. GIS is the engine which drives this analysis. We will look
at a variety of ways GIS can enhance decision making in land use planning and
public participation.
Establishing GIS capabilities for Fire and EMS departments
Vicki Schmidt
State Fire Instructor and GIS professional
With advances in 911, computer aided dispatch, and GIS, the capabilities to enhance the efforts of emergency response personnel seem endless. For towns that rely on mutual and automatic aid, designing and implementing systems that don't consider political boundaries is challenging. This presentation will offer suggestions for towns working towards establishing GIS capabilities for their fire and EMS departments.
Break: 2:30 PM to 2:45 PM
Session 4: 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM
GeoLibrary
Board panel discussion: What is the GeoLibrary and Where Should the GeoLibrary
be Going?
Maine Library of
Geographic Information Board
Members of the Maine Library of Geographic Information Board
will briefly discuss current GeoLibrary activities and present ideas for the
future direction of the GeoLibrary and Board.
The Board would like to use the bulk of the session getting input from
GIS users around the state. We urge you
to attend this important session if you are using GIS now or plan to in the
near future. The GeoLibrary and Board
we set up to serve you.
